ABC13 upgrades its eye in the sky

New SkyEye13 faster, offers live feeds during emergencies

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- ABC13 has upgraded its eye in the sky.

The brand new SkyEye13 is faster and can provide immediate live television feeds during emergencies and events such as hurricanes, floods and major traffic accidents.

"This is a major upgrade for our news operation," said ABC13 President and General Manager Henry Florsheim. "SkyEye13 will give us the ability to provide our viewers with the most up-to-date information and breaking news as it happens."

The new helicopter is equipped with a state-of-the-art camera system that can capture high-definition video and still images.

SkyEye13 also has a new digital microwave transmitter that will allow ABC13 to broadcast live video from the helicopter to its studios and website.

"This is a great addition to our newsroom," said ABC13 News Director Stephanie Swain. "SkyEye13 will help us to provide our viewers with the best possible coverage of breaking news and major events."

SkyEye13 is based at Ellington Airport in Houston.
